FREE Milstones (Ma'alim Fit-thoriq - Petunjuk Sepanjang Jalan) by Sayyid Qutb

AUTHOR’S PREFACE of this BOOK
Mankind today is on the brink of a destruction, not because of the danger of complete annihilation, which is hanging over its head - this being just a symptom and not the real disease - but because humanity is devoid of those vital values which are necessary not only for its healthy development but also for its real progress. Even the Western world realises that the Western civilization is unable to present any healthy values for the guidance of mankind. It knows that it does not possess anything which will satisfy its own conscience and justify its existence.

Democracy in the West has become infertile to such an extent that it is borrowing from the systems of the Eastern bloc, especially in the economic system, under the name of socialism. It is the same with the Eastern bloc. Its social theories, foremost among which is Marxism, in the beginning attracted not only a large number of people from the East but also from the West, as it was a way of life based on a creed. But now Marxism is defeated on the plane of thought, and if it is stated that not a single nation in the world is truly Marxist, it will not be an exaggeration. On the whole this theory conflicts with man's nature and its needs. This ideology prospers only in a degenerate society or in a society, which has become cowed as a result of some form of prolonged dictatorship. But now, even under these circumstances, its materialistic economic system is failing, although this was the only foundation on which its structure was based. Russia, which is the leader of the communist countries, is itself suffering from shortages of food whereas during the times of the Tsars Russia used to produce surplus food, it now has to import food from abroad and has to sell its reserves of gold for this purpose. The main reason for this is the failure of the system of collective farming, or, one can say, the failure of a system, which is against human nature.

About this BOOK

At a time in which the muslims are beset with trial from every periphery and within, come this heartening book rooted in the commandements of Allah, Azzawajall (the exalted), The sunnah and the excellent guidance and examples of the muslims that come before us.

Don't be sad is important book for all. It is full of practical advice on how to repel despair and replace it with a pragmatic and ultimately satisfying Islamic outlook on life. It exposes to the modern reader how Islam teaches us to deal with the tests and tribulations of this world.

This book contains verses of the Qur'an, saying of the prophet Muhammad (Blessing and peace be upon him) and of his companions as well as the wise. But it also contains sayings of western and eastern thinkers and philosophers, saying that coincide with the truth.

FREE Yoga for Men (Postures for Healthy, Stress Free Living)

“This has to be one of the best books of the decade on yoga in general as well as being a ‘first’ in discussing yoga for men (although women will love it, too). The book has both depth and breadth. It covers the full spectrum of contemporary and classical yoga practices and at the same time delves deeply into these practices with loads of useful information, precautions, references, photographs, instructions and most importantly a realistic and easy to understand treatment of the subject. What I appreciate the most is the straightforward informative approach without the embellishment and dubious information often found in some contemporary yoga texts. Thomas Claire writes in a way that makes the book difficult to put down and regardless of how experienced or inexperienced a man you are in the practice of yoga, it’s sure to be helpful. It will be on the required reading list for all of our students.”

FREE Men Around The Messenger By Khalid Muhammad Khalid

Introduction
It was neither invented discourse nor false rumor that was recorded in history about the great company of men who came into the world of belief and faith. That is because the entirety of human history has never witnessed such accurate documentation, honesty, and investigation of facts as did that epoch of Islamic history and its men. An extraordinary human effort has been exerted to study and pursue its tidings.
Successive generations of able and brilliant scholars have not left unexamined even the smallest details nor minutest explanations concerning that early epoch without putting them under microscopic investigation, scrutiny, and criticism. The spectacular magnitude we encounter on the pages of this book of those colossal men of the Companions of the Messenger (PBUH) is not something legendary, even though they may seem like legends due to their miraculous nature! These are facts characteristic of the personality and life of the Prophet's Companions. They soar high and are exalted and ennobled, not because of the author or, depicter, but because of what the Companions themselves desired and the extraordinary and righteous effort they exerted for the sake of excelling and attaining perfection.

This book does not claim the power to present this immaculate and extraordinary magnitude to the reader. Suffice it to refer to its characteristics and to approach its horizon. Surely history has not witnessed men who set their intentions and will to achieve a totally lofty and just goal and then devoted their entire lives to it in such an extremely fearless manner, with personal sacrifice and exertion, as it has witnessed in these men around the Messenger (PBUH).

They came to life at their appointed time and their promised day. When life was craving for someone to rejuvenate its spiritual values, those Companions came with their noble Messenger (PBUH) as heralds and sincere believers. When life was craving for someone to remove the shackles of troubled humanity and to liberate its existence and destiny, they came and stood by their great Messenger as revolutionaries and liberators. When life was craving for someone to present human civilization with
new and sound inclination, they came as pioneers and luminaries. How could those righteous men achieve what they did in a few years. How did they triumph over
the ancient world, with all its empires and sovereignties, and turn it into a ruinous mount. How could they build with Allah's Qur'aan and His Words a new world everberating with freshness, glittering with glory and surpassing in capability. Above all, how were they able, with the speed of light, to illuminate human conscience with the truth of monotheism and sweep away forever the paganism of ancient
centuries. This was their real miracle! Moreover, their real miracle resides in that remarkable psychological power with which they shaped their virtues and adhered to their faith in a manner that defies comparison.

However, all their achieved miracles were nothing but a modest reflection of the greater miracle that enlightened the world on the day Allah willed His noble Qur'aan to be sent down, His honorable Messenger to deliver the message, and the procession of Islam to start its paces on the road of enlightenment. In this book, which was previously published in five separate parts and is issued now in a complete
new edition, we present sixty personalities of the Prophet's Companions (May Allah have peace upon them all). As mentioned at the conclusion of this book, these sixty men represent several thousand others of their brethren who were contemporaneous with the Messenger (PBUH) and who believed in him and supported him. In their reflection we see the images of all the Companions. We see their faith, their constancy, their heroism and their loyalty to Allah and His Messenger (PBUH). We see the effort they
exerted, the calamities they endured, and the victory they achieved. We also see the eminent role theyplayed in liberating all humanity from the paganism of conscience and the loss of destiny. However, the reader will not encounter among these sixty the four Companions who were to become the Messenger's successors Abu Bakr, `Umar, `Uthmaan, and `Aliy. Allah has enabled us to devote a separate book for each one of them. The four books appeared as: Then Came Abu Bakr Between the Hands of Umar In the
Presence of `Aliy and Farewell `Uthmaan.

Now let us approach in awe and delight those righteous men, to welcome the best human examples, the most graceful and most virtuous. Let us see under their humble garments the most sublime and lofty in greatness and wisdom known to the whole world. Let us witness the legion of truth treading the ancient world in piety, filling the sky with standards of new truth in which they announced the religion of monotheism and the liberation of mankind.

FREE For People Who Think

The Final Book
Some people reject God because they can find no evidence for Him which satisfies both their hearts and minds simultaneously. Then there are others who accept God on the basis of emotional or irrational reasons which satisfy their hearts, but leave their minds unsure. These two groups of people have never found a satisfying answer to the question of their relationship with God. Then there are yet others who have found the
correct path which God intended for us: to accept Him and His message to us using our minds first and foremost, and the heart follows easily and naturally as a consequence.
Instead of searching for the answer, there are also some people who chose to simply brush the question aside and ignore it unfortunately. This is the easy way out of what appears to be a very difficult, mysterious question which may seem to have no final solution. Most of these people are unaware of a very powerful message which completely and unequivocally establishes the correct path to God. This message squares with both the mind and the heart, and it has no equal since it comes to us straight from God Himself.

The message comes in the form of a book. In fact, God has given us several Books of guidance through the years, but each one was ultimately corrupted and changed by dishonest people. Each Book essentially contained the same fundamental message as the previous Books. Mankind was expected to guard these Books from harm, but unfortunately failed to live up to this expectation. Slowly but surely, each Book was edited and tampered with, destroying its authenticity. This is partly why God kept sending us more revelations.

However, almost 1400 years ago, God sent us another Book with the same basic message as the earlier ones, but with a small but very important difference. This time, God decreed that this Book would be the last Book sent down to us because God would protect it Himself. Regarding this Final Book, God said,
"Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high this reminder: and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it" [Chapter 15, verse 9]
Today, if we compare the 114 chapters in every copy of this Final Book with each other, we will find they match perfectly word for word - from the oldest copies made 1300-plus years ago to the ones printed just a few hours ago. No human hand has changed it. The rational person has every right to be doubtful, of course, if he or she has never read this book. For such people, here is a small sample of what the Final Book contains. Suppose we wanted to ask God several questions about Him and about ourselves. Short of Him speaking to us directly (such a privilege has been
granted to only one person out of all humanity), the Book has the best answers one can find. It is on the strength of these answers that an honest person may be struck with the conviction that the Final Book is from none other than God Almighty. Again, here is only a small part of the information one might find.

FREE The Blackwell Guide to the Philosophy of Religion, Steven M. Cahn (Editor)

The Blackwell Guide to the Philosophy of Religion, Steven M. Cahn (Editor)

The major theistic religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, acknowledge the
existence of a supreme being. This being, God, is generally thought by these
religious traditions to be responsible for the creation and conservation of the
world. More than that, God is supposed to care about his creatures, to know
their innermost thoughts, joys, and sorrows, and to desire their flourishing. God
is thus thought to be personal, inasmuch as he has a mental life consisting of
beliefs, desires, and intentions. At the same time, however, theists insist that
God is a deity, a status they emphasize by claiming that unlike humans, God is
omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), and perfectly good. Many
theists claim, further, that although humans live in space and time, God in some
way transcends these dimensions of human existence. These assertions about
God’s nature have undergone extensive philosophical examination.
One undertaking is to define the concept of a thing. Another is to determine
whether anything exists that fits the concept. A Greek mythologist can specify
precisely what a gorgon is without believing for a moment that there are, or ever
were, any gorgons. Even if we were to converge on a uniform conception of God,
it would still be an open question whether God, as so conceived, exists.
Some philosophers have sought to prove God’s existence by showing that,
unlike the case of the gorgons, God’s existence is entailed directly by the concept
of God. For these philosophers no empirical investigation is necessary or
appropriate: reason unaided by facts about the world can demonstrate the necessity
of God’s existence. Arguments that purport to accomplish this feat are called
ontological arguments. The most famous one was the earliest, formulated by
Anselm of Canterbury (1033–1109). Anselm claims that anyone who reflects
adequately on the notion of God as “something than which nothing greater can be conceived” should come to realize that God must exist. Anselm’s argument
has fascinated and outraged philosophers since its inception.

FREE Nietzsche and Morality, Brian Leiter and Neil Sinhababu

Nietzsche and Morality, Brian Leiter and Neil Sinhababu

Nietzsche is often regarded as a paradigmatically anti-theoretical philosopher. Bernard Williams has said that Nietzsche is so far from being a theorist that his text ‘is boobytrapped not only against recovering theory from it, but, in many cases, against any systematic exegesis that assimilates it to theory.’¹ Manywould apply this view especially to Nietzsche’smoral philosophy. They would say that even when he is making positive normative claims, as against just criticizing existing morality, his claims have neither the content nor the organization characteristic of moral theory.
To me this common view is the opposite of illuminating. I take it as uncontroversial
that Nietzsche’s positive moral views fall under the general heading of what today
is called perfectionism. They are centred on a conception of the good, which they
commend actions for instantiating or promoting, but this conception does not equate
the good with anything like pleasure or the satisfaction of desires; instead, it locates the good in objective human excellences that for Nietzsche centre on the concepts of power and strength. Like other moral views, perfectionism can be developed as a systematic theory, and when it is, a series of questions arise about its structure and content. If one reads Nietzsche with these questions in mind, it is striking how often, without formulating them explicitly, he suggests answers to them. And when one combines those answers, the result is a perfectionist theory of a distinctiveNietzschean stripe. Perfectionism has been embraced by, among others, Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Leibniz, Hegel, Marx, Bradley, Brentano, Rashdall, and Moore. More ........

FREE Where We Stand - A Surprising Look at the Real State of Our Planet, Seymour Garte, Ph.D.

Where We Stand - A Surprising Look at the Real State of Our Planet, Seymour Garte, Ph.D.

One of the triggers that prompted me to write this book was my attendance at a small symposium in New York on technology and democracy. The panel members were, by and large, liberal academic social scientists who talked about the loss of empowerment of ordinary people in making decisions regarding their own futures vis-a` -vis technological developments. One of the speakers concluded his remarks by saying that it is always a mistake to think that problems caused by technology, such as pollution, loss of biodiversity, or damage to the ecosystem, could ever be ‘‘fixed’’ by technological solutions. Only widespread and complete social overhaul (not defined in any further detail) could accomplish this. The speaker then went on to say that in fact ‘‘there have never been any successful attempts at reversing the declining
trend in environmental quality and public health, and therefore technology
simply cannot be trusted.’’

Not that these books are wrong. All these problems are real. But is that all there is? Hasn’t anything good happened? Where do we really stand in terms of our quality of life, both in an absolute sense and in relation to our recent past? If things have actually been getting so much worse for so long, why aren’t we all dead already? According to many environmentalists of the 1960s and 1970s, by now we should all be either dead or living in a horrible world without light, air, or natural resources. In school and college curricula, courses on ecology and environmental science are often little more than catalogs of natural catastrophes.
